Kat and I spent the night in Marion, VA, and are heading back to the trail today. Since leaving Damascus we hiked our first 20 mile day, and passed the 500 mile mark. The Grayson highlands were absolutely beautiful. We enjoyed hiking past the ponies and long horn steer, and the landscape was breathtaking, albeit a little soggy. I got my first blisters of the trail after a day and a half with wet socks.
As we begin our rapid push to Pearisburg, I’m reflecting on the good fortune we’ve had, and the amazing people we’ve met. Generous section hikers who share their company and trail magic, and recent college grads who offer rides mid road trip. And of course once again we had a random encounter with an REI Conshy employee ( thanks for the beer Dave!). It is truly a small world.
Look out north, here we come.
